Are Gilbert Dentures Right for Me?

Most people are familiar with complete dentures that are used when all your teeth are missing or removed. Actually, dentures may not be the answer to all your dental problems. They are made to rest on your gum tissue, so even the best-fitting dentures may still move around a bit when you are talking or eating.

Longer term issues occur when your body begins to reabsorb the bone tissue. Basically, the bone begins to disappear when your body no longer senses that it is needed. This can lead to facial collapse, a condition where you facial appearance may become altered. After many years of suffering from facial collapse, it becomes very difficult to make a well-fitting denture since there is no bone left. Under these circumstances, it becomes very difficult to continue wearing dentures.

Overdentures

Implant treatment can be an alternative to the traditional denture. The implant will prevent bone loss by bonding to the jawbone to form an anchor. An overdenture is then placed over the top of the implant.

This functional alternative is a great choice for many people:
   • They do not cause discomfort and are more stable.
   • They prevent facial collapse.
   • Your chewing ability is improved.
   • They will not move around when eating or speaking.
   • You may be able to keep some of your natural teeth.
